    History

The Cross for Royal Volunteers was created in 1815 by Louis XVIII to recognize volunteers in the provinces who rallied together in order to restore the monarchy. It was later suppressed on February 10, 1831.

There was no official document specifying the design of the decoration, and as a result there is a great deal of variation (possibly up to 300 different versions).
