History

This decoration was founded by the National Assembly and it is the highest award conferred within the Republic of Austria.

It is conferred upon foreign and national citizens for distinguished service and exemplary achievements within the Republic of Austria that have created a positive public impact.

The recipients are chosen by the government, and the awards are conferred by the President of Austria.

The President of Austria is always awarded the Grand Star of the Order for life following their appointment to the office.

The III Class Breast Star as the Gold Grand Decoration of Honour Breast Star, and corresponds with the grade of I Class Grand Commander Breast Star.
