History

This Order was founded by the Minister of Culture, Juli Minoves Friquell.

Charlemagne was an instrumental character in uniting Western and Central Europe in the Middle Ages. He was the first Emperor of Western Europe since the fall of the Western Roman Empire. He is also considered to be the founder of Andorra and is widely recognized with the symbol of principality.

It is conferred upon individuals in recognition of outstanding meritorious service to the state. The Order is also awarded to recognize outstanding achievements withing an individual's field of work.
