    History


    The Cross for the First Site of Saragossa was instituted in Spain by King Ferdinand VII on March 25, 1817. It was awarded to Spanish military personnel in recognition of distinguished services rendered to Spain in the defense of Saragossa against the first French site occurred in 1808.

    The Cross features an obverse inscription that translates to "The King to the Defender of Saragossa."
