    This Order was established, and first awarded, on August 23, 1995.

    It is awarded for distinguished services to the people and state of Ukraine, and it can be conferred upon native and foreign citizens.

    The Order was named after Yaroslav was the Grand Prince of Kiev from 1019-1054. His reign brought great cultural and military power to Kiev, and he introduced legal customs and systems which would become the basis of law in Ukraine.
