The Medal of Cultural Merit was awarded to Romanian citizens in recognition of achievements in a variety of cultural fields, including art and literature. It was permanently discontinued following the collapse of the Socialist Republic in 1989.
The II Class Medal features an obverse inscription that translates to "Romanian Socialist Republic, Cultural Merit."
