The Medal of Diplomatic Merit was established in 2000 as an extension of the Order of Diplomatic Merit. It is awarded to Romanian members of the Foreign Ministry, including those employed in embassies and consulates. It may also be awarded to foreigners who have made significant contributions to the development of relations between Romania and other sovereign states.
The II Class Medal features a reverse inscription that translates to "Diplomatic Merit."
