This medal was awarded to celebrate 40 years of reign under Prince Nicolas I.

There were two manufacturers that minted this medal, J.C. Christlbauer and Vincent Mayer, both in Vienna. The only difference between the two medals are the medal signatures, J.C. and V.M.

There were only 50 medals conferred.
