A Greek Merchant Navy War Cross, Bronze Grade; 3rd Class - Bronze, 39x58.5mm inclusive of its crown suspension, original ribbon with dual prong pinback, extremely fine. In its cardboard box of issue, lid has recessed, box near extremely fine.
The Merchant Navy War Cross was awarded to men of the Greek Merchant Navy, as well as the nurses, doctors and Royal Hellenic Navy personnel who served on merchant ships during the Second World War.
A small crown clasp was awarded for each additional citation. Up to three crowns could be awarded before the recipient was promoted to the next higher grade.
The Bronze Cross features a reverse inscription that translates to "Great [is] the Might of the Sea 1940."
