The Aircrew Badge is classified into four types based on changes in design during different political regimes.
The Type III Badge was instituted in the spring of 1974 and features a phoenix above the flying eagle. It is similar to the Type III Pilot Badge, but it is half-sized.
There are three versions of the Type III Badge that differ in composition. In some instances, the Type II Badge was worn with a separate metallic phoenix pin above the badge.
