star of the order, consisting eight armed silver star, composed of clusters of multiple individual faceted rays, obverse centre presenting a silver gilt Maltese cross with black enamels, a silver Estonian Eagle at centre, reverse with dual stays and principle pin assembly, measuring 86 mm (w) x 85 mm (h), better than extremely fine.
The Order of the Eagle Cross was established by the Estonian Defence League in 1928 in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Estonian independence. In 1936, it was adopted by the Estonian Parliament in the Decoration Act, which recognised it as a national award. It was later suppressed during the Soviet occupation, but it was renewed in 1995 following the restoration of Estonian independence.
It is conferred upon Estonian citizens and foreigners in recognition of meritorious military service and other services rendered to national defence. It is awarded with swords, in all grades, when conferred upon military personnel. It may also be awarded posthumously.
The II Class Breast Star is identical to the I Class Breast Star.
