History


The Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana was established by President Lennart Meri in 1995 to honour the independence of Estonia. It is conferred upon foreigners who have rendered outstanding services to Estonia and may be awarded posthumously.

The Collar is conferred upon foreign heads of state and the President of Estonia. It has 12 links with the monogram of Mary, 6 shield links, and 6 cross links.
