History


The Order of the Ministry of Defence was established by the Ministry of Defence on the 80th anniversary of Estonian independence. It is awarded to Estonian citizens in recognition meritorious service rendered to the protection of Estonia.

The I Class Cross is awarded for strengthening national defence and national security, the II Class Cross is awarded for long service to the defence of the nation, and the III Class Cross is awarded for the development of national defence initiatives. The III Class Cross may also be awarded to members of the Estonian resistance who contributed to the restoration of Estonian independence. In addition, all classes may be awarded posthumously.
