A Second War Czech Commemorative Medal - of the Army Abroad , type III, Prague "Z" stamping on the reverse. Two-piece construction, bronze with silvered insignia riveted in place, 38.5 mm x 43.5 mm, original ribbon, extremely fine.
This medal was founded by the Czechoslovak government in exile.
It was awarded to Czechoslovak citizens who were outside the country prior to the German annexation, or who escaped the country afterwards, and subsequently joined the Armed Forces of other Allied countries to continue fighting.
There are a few minor variations within the medal design.
The Bronze Medals that were manufactured in London feature a light coloured bronze.
The Bronze Medals that were manufactured in Prague feature a dark coloured bronze, and there are version with and without a "Z" stamped on the reverse.
The ribbon may be decorated with different sized clasps reading "FRANCIE", "F", "SSSR", "SSSR", "STREDNI VYCHOD", "SV", "VELKA BRITANIE", and "VB".
The reverse inscription roughly translates to "Czechoslovak Army Abroad 1939 1945."
