This Order is a continuation and redesign of the Military Order of Bravery founded during the Kingdom of Bulgaria.
It was re-instituted with a new design by the Presidium of the Great Assembly and it was conferred upon civilians and military personnel in recognition of gallantry during conflict. The Order was also awarded for contributions to public safety and improving the integrity of the country during peacetime.
There are two main emissions of the Order awards.
The awards issued first are numbered on the reverse.
The awards issued second are not numbered on the reverse.
The Order was discontinued on April 5, 1991.
It may also be known as the Order for Heroism.
