History

This Order was established in commemoration of Bulgaria’s 13th century anniversary.

It was conferred upon Bulgarian in recognition of exceptional service rendered to the Republic, and to foreign citizens for their efforts to strength relationships with Bulgaria.

The Order is equal in precedence with the Order of Georgi Dimitrov and the Order of Stara Planina.

It was awarded to approximately 100 recipients before the Order was discontinued on April 5, 1991.

The Order design was created by a team under the guidance of Valentin Starchev and Marko B. Markov.
