This medal was conferred upon Bulgarians in recognition of highly productive, exceptionally faithful, and long service within all aspects of the public sphere in the People's Republic of Bulgaria.

The medal was designed by Marko Markov and Bozhidar Kozarev, and it was discontinued in 1991.
