This medal was founded by the State Council in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the April Insurrection in 1876.
The medal was conferred upon foreign and Bulgarian high ranking individuals, and the areas who had rendered active service in the April Insurrection.
It was designed by Professor Valentin Starchev, and it was discontinued in 1991.
