History

The Badge of Splendour (Nishan-i-Ihtishima) was founded by Nawab Sultan Jahan Begum Sahiba on February 17, 1902. Nawab Sultan Jahan Begum Sahiba ruled as the Begum of Bhopal between 1901 and 1926. During her reign, Nawab Begum brought forth progressive reforms to the fields of Bhopal's education, taxation, military, police, judiciary and jail. The Badge of Splendour was awarded in recognition of military service.
