This medal was conferred upon Officers and Enlisted Men of the Defence Security Corps in recognition of 7 years of service. It was also awarded for 15 years of combined service with the Armed Forces and the Defence Security Corps.

Originally this medal was known as the Raksha Surksha Corps Medal, Class II. It was renamed on November 18, 1968.
