History

This medal was conferred upon members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces who fought during the Liberation War of 1971. It is considered the second highest gallantry award in Bangladesh.

There have been 69 recipients of this medal to date.

This medal may also be known as the Valour Medal. The Bengali title of this medal may be roughly translated to Great Valiant Hero.
