History

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention William Watson Medal of Excellence was created in 1977 to reward Center for Disease Control and Prevention employees for outstanding achievements. The Medal was originally entitled the “Center for Disease Control Medal of Excellence” but was renamed in honour of William Watson, former deputy director at the Center for Disease Control, in 1985.
