The Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medal was established by the Commandant of the Coast Guard, Admiral Edwin J. Roland, on February 1, 1963. The award was initially designated as the "Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Ribbon" and presented as a ribbon only award. On September 3, 1981, the award was officially renamed the "Coast Guard Reserve Good Conduct Medal." The Bronze Medal is awarded to enlisted members of the Coast Guard Reverse in recognition of 3 consecutive years or credible and honourable service.
A bronze star may be worn on the ribbon to denote subsequent awards of the Medal.
