History

The NC-4 Medal was authorized by Congress on February 9, 1929. The Medal was awarded to the crew of the NC-4 flying boat to commemorate the successful completion of the first Transatlantic flight in May 1919. The Medal was awarded to 7 service members. The Medal has since been made obsolete.

The Medal was initially awarded as a large non-wearable Gold Medal, but on April 25, 1939, a reduced size Bronze Medal was authorized for wear on the uniform.

The Medal features an inscription of all 7 recipient's names on the reverse.

There may be additional versions of the Medal which vary by composition.
