History

The Air Force Combat Observer's Badge replaced the Army Air Force Observer's Badge which was initially instituted in 1917. The Combat Observer's Badge was established by the United States Air Force and is issued to co-pilots, navigators and flight support personnel in recognition of training, qualification, and service during the Second World War.

The Air Force Combat Observer's Badge is also awarded in a Senior grade, which is awarded to members of the United States Air Force in recognition of 500 flight hours and 5 years of service. However, the Senior Wings are rare.

There are multiple versions of the Wings which vary by composition. There may be additional versions not featured here.
