The Medal for Veracruz (Medalla de Veracruz) was instituted by the Mexican government in 1847, in recognition of the Officers and men who defended the city of Veracruz from an American attack on March 9, 1847.
The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient. The Silver Medal was awarded to Officers, and the Bronze Medal was awarded to enlisted men.
The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "To the Proved Patriotism and Courage in the Defense of the Heroic Veracruz."
There are known several version that differ on the disposition of both obverse and reverse inscription. Also, the version differ in their features.
