The Medal for Valor and Sacrifice (Medalla al Valor y la AbnegaciĆ³n) was instituted in Mexico by the government of Victoriano Huerta in recognition of the Federal Army who fought against the Constitutional Army headed by Venustiano Carranza during the Mexican revolution at the beginning of 20th century.
The Cross was awarded in three classes according with the rank of the recipient. I Class Cross was conferred upon Generals, while II Class Cross was awarded to Officers, and III Class Cross to enlisted men.
The Cross features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "From the Mexican Government to the Army," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "Award to Valor and Sacrifice."
