The Medal for Glorious Triumph at Puebla (Medalla del Glorioso Triunfo en Puebla) was authorized by the Mexican government in 1862, in recognition of the Officers and men who defeated an invading French garrison nearby Puebla on May 5, 1862.
The composition of the Medal denotes the rank of the recipient; the Gold Medal was awarded to Chiefs, the Silver Medal to Officers, and the Bronze Medal to enlisted men.
The Medal features an obverse inscription that can be translated to "The Mexican Republic to its Sons," and a reverse inscription that can be translated to "He Won with Glory against the French Army in the Gates of Puebla on May 5, 1862."
This Medal is known as well as The Medal for the Battle of 5th of May (Medalla de la Batalla del Cinco de Mayo). The Medal is stamped by "S.N.G.".
The Gold Medal was authorized with different characteristics depending on the rank of the recipient.
