(Orden de San Carlos). Instituted 1954. Sash badge composing of an enameled green four-armed cross in silver gilt, featuring clusters of silver rays in each quadrant, the obverse with superposed Colombian coat of arms in gilt, the reverse with central inscription ORDEN DE SAN CARLOS, measuring 50.20 mm (w) x 54.52 mm (h - inclusive of integral ring), suspended by original full-length sash with bow, extremely fine condition; together with the star of the Order consisting of mirrored obverse design, the reverse with singular pin assembly, measuring 54.93 mm (w) x 54.36 mm (h), light contact, extremely fine condition.
The Order of San Carlos (Orden de San Carlos) was instituted on August 16, 1954. Since then, it has been modified in three times in total, in 1980, 1986, and 2001.
It was founded to reward Colombians and foreign, both military and civil personnel, for extraordinary service to Colombia, particularly within the realm of international relations. It is the second-highest award with the country.
The Order's grades are Collar, I Class Grand Cross (with gilt breast star), II Class Grand Cross (with silvered breast star), Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight.
