History

The Order of Merit of the Armed Forces (Ordem das Forças Armadas) was created to recognize Brazilian military personnel, including soldiers, the Navy, Air Force, Auxiliary Forces, foreign military personnel and foreign civilians, as well as Brazilian citizens in the armed forces who have provided Brazil with exceptional service to the armed forces and foreign or domestic organizations.

The Order's grades were Grand Cro ...  ss, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight.

In 2002, this Order was replaced by the Order of Defence Merit.
