The National Order of Honorato Vasquez was instituted in Ecuador by decree on April 25, 1985. It is conferred upon Ecuadorians and foreign nationals in recognition of exceptional achievements within diplomacy and politics.
The Order's grades are Grand Cross, Commander, and Knight. It is the four-highest award granted by Ecuador.
The Order was named after Honorato Vasquez (1855-1933) was a lawyer, politician, diplomat, and writer, who was called to arbitrate territorial disputes with Peru and Colombia.
