History

This medal is conferred upon all members of the Union of South Africa (1952-1958) / South African Defence Force (1958-present) in recognition of exceptional meritorious service and devotion to duty.

It was discontinued on July 1, 1975 and replaced with a newer version.

The value of this medal increases with supporting documentation.
