Burkina Faso, ex Haute-Volta, national order of Haute-Volta, founded in 1961, abolished in 1993, Commander's jewel in vermeil and enamel (luster to the legend), hallmark of Arthus-Bertrand for export, without ribbon, 66 x 45 mm.
The National Order of Upper Volta was conferred upon civilians and military personnel in recognition of merit and extraordinary service to the nation of Upper Volta. It was permanently discontinued in 1993 following the creation of the National Order of Burkina Faso. Recipients of the National Order of Upper Volta were named to the corresponding grades of the new Order.
The Grand Officer is identical to the Officer, however only the Grand Officer is worn with a Breast Star. The obverse inscription translates to "National Order," and the reverse inscription translates to "Republic of Upper Volta."
