The Medal of the Resistant is one of four "moudjahidine medals" created in commemoration of Algerian Independence. It was conferred upon members of the National Liberation Front for meritorious service during the Algerian War of Independence from 1954-1962. It could also be awarded posthumously.

Recipients of this Medal were ineligible to receive the Medal for the National Liberation Army.
