History
The Order of Maternal Glory was established on July 8, 1944. The I Class medal was conferred upon mothers for bearing and raising 9 children. By 1991, roughly 900,000 I Class medals were awarded.
The I Class is the highest class, the banner and the star are enameleld in red and the shield is enamelled in white. The red star is a separate piece connect to the base by a rivet. The suspension ribbon has a white enamel background with a light blue stripe down the middle. There are three variations.
Variation I's suspension is mirrored on the reverse, and has a hand engraved serial number. The serial numbers range from 15,000 to 52,000.
Variation II has a flat suspension reverse and a hand engraved serial number. The serial numbers range from 90,000 to 175,000.
Variation III has a flat suspension and tool engraved serial number. The serial numbers range from 298,000 to 879,000.
The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "Maternal Glory". It also features the Russian letters for USSR.
