History
The Motherhood Medal was established by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on July 8, 1944.
The I Class medal was awarded to mothers who gave birth to 6 children and raised them all. It was only awarded when her last child reached one year, if all of her other children were alive. If a child died while serving the state, said child was considered alive for the purpose of the award being issued. Approximately 4,000,000 medals were issued.
The I Class is made of gold-plated brass with white and light blue enamel. The ring at 12 o'clock is made as a part of the medal. The enamel on the suspension piece is light blue.
The inscription on the reverse translates to "Medal of Motherhood".
