History
The decoration was instituted on September 20, 1947 by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. This medal was conferred upon workers and citizens who had lived in Moscow for at least 5 years during its 800th anniversary. Over 1,700,000 people received this award.
The medal is composed of bronze and measures 37mm in diameter. The 12 o'clock ring is made as a part of the medal.
The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "The Founder of Moscow Yuri Dolgoruki". The reverse inscription translates to: "In Commemoration of 800 Years of Moscow".
