The Commemoration of 1500 Years of Kiev Medal was established on May 10, 1982. This medal was conferred upon citizens and workers who resided in Kiev, and upon those who lived in the city for no more than 10 years during its 1500th anniversary. More than 900,000 were awarded.
The medal is composed of tombac and measures 32mm. The 12 o'clock ring is made with the medal, and there is a small LMD mark on the side of the ring, standing for Leningradskii Monetny Dvor. The obverse presents an image of Lenin standing with four partisan fighters at his feet with rays of the sun in the background. The reverse presents the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian Soviet Social Republic and the Sophia Cathedral behind.
The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "In Commemoration of 1500 Years of Kiev". The reverse Russian inscription translates to "Glory to the Hero-City".
