History
The Jubilee Medal for the 100th Anniversary of Lenin's Birth was established on November 5, 1969. This medal was conferred in recognition of helping with the preparation of the Lenin Jubilee. It was awarded to workers, economic specialists, government institution employees, cultural activists, and others who assisted in the preparation for the Lenin Jubilee; individuals who participated in contributing to the building of socialism, especially in advancing the ideals of the younger generation; and Army, Navy, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and State Security. Over 11 million were awarded.
The medal is made of brass and measure 32mm. It has one type with three variations. All three have the same obverse, presenting a left facing profile of V.I Lenin and the years 1870-1970 below. It is worn on a small rectangular suspension with a red ribbon with yellow edges. The variations have differences on the reverse.
Variation I was awarded for labour service and is the most common. The variation I reverse translates to "For Valorous Labour in Commemoration of the 100th Birthday of V.I. Lenin".
Variation II was for Military service and is less common because the recipient had to be on active service when it was awarded. Variation II reverse translates to "For Military Valour in Commemoration of the 100th Birthday of V.I. Lenin".
Variation III to foreigners who display communist ideals. The top edge is left blank while the reverse inscription translates to "In Commemoration of the 100th Birthday of V.I. Lenin".
