History
The decoration was instituted on November 20, 1967, by decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. This medal was conferred upon members of the militia who were in good standing, and to retirees and reservists with over 25 years of service in the militia. Roughly 250,000 were awarded.
The medal is composed of nickel silver and measures 32mm. The ring at 12 o'clock is made as a part of the medal. It is marked LMD on the ring for Leningradskii Monetny Dvor.
The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "50 Years". The reverse Russian inscription translates to: "In Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Soviet Militia 1917-1967".
