    The Order of Friendship Medal was established by Boris Yeltsin by presidential decree 442 of 2 March 1994.

    This Order is conferred upon Russian citizens and foreign nationals in recognition of strengthening bonds of peace, cooperation, and understanding between nations.

    The reverse Russian inscription translates to: "Peace and Friendship".
