History

This medal is also known as the Medal for Valour. It was retained from the USSR, although modifications to the statute were made on March 2, 1994.

The medal is conferred upon military personnel and civilian employees of the Interior Ministry of the Russian Federation, State Fire Service, Civil Defence Ministry, and the Emergency Situations and Disaster Relief Ministry.

The obverse Russian inscription translates to: "For Courage".
