History

The National Order of Kiribati (Ana Kamoamoa Kiribati) was established by I. Tabai, the Benetitenti, or President, of Kiribati by the Kiribati National Honours and Awards Act in 1989. The Kiribati Honours System was created to reward and recognise exemplary, meritorious, and distinguished service to Kiribati.

The National Order of Kiribati is conferred upon citizens who have made outstanding or exceptional contributions in their field of endeavour to the welfare of Kiribati.

Recipients are entitled to the post-nominal letters AKK.
