History

The Grand Order of Kiribati (Ana Tokabeti Kiribati) was established by I. Tabai, the Benetitenti, or President, of Kiribati by the Kiribati National Honours and Awards Act in 1989. The Kiribati Honours System was created to recognise exemplary, meritorious, and distinguished service to Kiribati.

The Grand Order of Kiribati is the highest award in Kiribati. It is conferred upon former Benetitenti who have served a minimum of 2 presidential terms, or to others who have made a worthy contribution to the State.

Recipients are entitled to the post-nominal letters ATK.
