History

The Commissioner's Unit Citation was added to the independent honours system of New South Wales in 1994. It is conferred upon units, groups, squads, patrols and commands in recognition of extraordinarily meritorious service and gallantry. Around five citations are awarded annually.

The insignia if worn by each member of the unit and the unit as a whole receives a framed citation. The insignia is a silver bar with a light blue enamel panel in the centre. For subsequent awards a star is added to the insignia.
