History

The Champion Shots Medal was instituted on 13 September 1988 and is conferred once a year upon the champion marksmen of the Royal Australian Navy, Royal Australian Air Force, and the Australian Army (a total of 3 medals awarded annually).

The obverse of the metal features two crossed rifles surrounded by a laurel wreath. The rifles are superimposed over stars of Crux constellation.

If the recipient of this awards wins more than once, the additional awards are in the form of metal bar inscribed with the date.
