History

The Medal of 8thMarch was instituted on April 9, 1963. The Medal was created in commemoration of the coup on March 8, 1963, which resulted in the Ba'ath Party accession to power. The Medal was awarded to all members of the Armed Forces who served on March 9, 1963. The Medal may also be known as the Revolution Medal of March 8, 1963.
