History
The Honour Medal of Syrian Merit was instituted by the French High Commissioner in Syria on April 10, 1926. The Medal was conferred in 4 Classes in recognition of courage or meritorious service. This award was replaced by the "Order of Civil Merit" in 1953 (see SYR104).
The I Class Decoration is composed of silver gilt and features 2 silver gilt palms and is issued as the highest class of the Order. It is uncertain if the I Class is worn with a Breast Star. More research is needed.
There may be additional versions of the Decoration which vary by design not featured here.
