History
The Omani Peace Medal (Midal al-Salam al-Omani) was instituted by Sultan Qaboos in 1976 or 1980. The Medal is presented to members of the Oman Armed Forces, Police and senior Ministry of Defence staff in recognition of 1 year or more of service provided since July 1, 1976, following the Dhofar Rebellion.
A gilt Omani crown emblem is authorized for wear on the ribbon as the Sultan's Operational Award to denote awards made to recipients who were killed our wounded while in action or who have provided acts of bravery in the presence of an enemy in the Southern Province during the qualifying period of the award.
The obverse features an inscription in Arabic, translated as "Sultan Qaboos bin Said" and "Sultan of Oman". The reverse features an inscription in Arabic which translates to "The Sultan's Medal for Preserving the Peace."
