History
The Order of National Defence was established by Shaikh 'Abdullah III in 1962. The Order is presented in 3 Classes to military and civil personnel in recognition of significant acts and contributions to Kuwait's national defence. Qualifying service includes long and distinguished military service which advances Kuwait's national defence or independence.
The Order may also be awarded to Kuwaiti military units, in which case members of the unit are authorized to wear a fouragere and unit commanders are entitled to wear the Decoration of the Order.
The I Class Major General is worn by a neck ribbon.
The Decoration features an obverse Arabic inscription which translates to "Order of National Defence" as well as a reverse Arabic inscription which translates to "This Order is Established by Law No. 17 of 1962."
